Michael Nunn head chef at Ballarat’s favourite Pizzeria The Forge will be preparing one of the eight courses at the Taste Ballarat Produce Dinner Friday April 10th.
Country Style Smallgoods’s Sebastian Jurcan has been one of Ballarat Food’s original and most enthusiastic supporters. It was not long ago that this maker of fine quality small goods arrived in the Ballarat region, armed with fine charcuterie skills from his many years at Istra in Musk, near Daylesford, and a dream to set up a local quality smallgoods outlet in our area. We knew he was going to be a good thing for the Ballarat food scene.
Ballarat's local foodies have been quietly plotting and planning a very Ballarat produce dinner at the Lydiard Wine Bar Friday 10th 2015.

Now before I announce the Bestie Awards for 2014 I need to give creds to the people I call the Village People. You must all remember The Village People, a group of amazing musicians who shared a passion and discoed their way into our hearts. Y.M.C.A. and You Can’t Stop the Music are you with me?

I sometimes wonder how much longer I can abstain from the restaurant scene. Lately I get seriously toey when I flick through a new cook book or magazine. I am becoming extremely critical when I dine out and think,” I’m sure I could have cooked that dish with a little more finesse.” I may need therapy because who would seriously want to spend 80 to 100 hours a week, smelling like animal entrails, deafened from exhaust fans and stamped with an assortment of burns, broken nails, calloused feet and lemon juice marinated finger injuries. Who would want to throw themselves into the hell fire of a booked out service on a 38 degrees day wearing a double breasted jacket with long sleeves and freshly ironed hound’s-tooth pants. ME. I want it all and spending a few hours with The Avoca Hotel's head chef Christopher Howe has just ignited my passion like a brulee torch on free range methane.
December 10 is Terra Madre Day an annual international celebration of local food. This year slowfood.com are asking us to use Terra Madre day to highlight local foods at risk of disappearing.
Lavender is abundant in our region and summer is the time to harvest the beautifully aromatic flowers. I have been intending to use this fabulous herb in some cooking for some time now and had been actively looking out for some of the edible variety around town to buy for some summer dishes.
Mitchell Harris Wine Bar and Cellar Door in Doveton Street North has been a popular spot in the heart of Ballarat since early 2013, a recent visit to try their fare was a wonderful experience for the tastebuds. The wine offering available by the glass would have to be the best in Ballarat and more than enough for it's own comprehensive review. The excellent thing about this local wine bar is that there is more than wine to enjoy.
